The Mares AX 1 is a purpose built cyclo cross bike ready to race. Using Shimano's Ultegra components and FSA's Gossamer 46/36 chainset, the Mares AX 1 can, and will, withstand the rigours of cyclo cross racing. The alloy triple butted frame coupled with the carbon forks provide the lightness and stiffness required and with the quality of the componentry, this bike will not let you down. DT Swiss R1900 provides the strength as regards to the wheelset which are wrapped with Schwalbes Racing Ralph tyres, and Avid Shorty 4 calipers providing the stopping power you require. The finishing kit includes Concept and FSA components. A great cross bike that is full of high quality components which are dependable when the racing (and terrain) gets tough. Powdercoated: FOCUS bikes have a hard life. To keep the bikes looking new, every frame is coated by an indestructible lacquer. The colour is applied to the electro-statically charged frames in the form of fine powder. The result is a frame of enormous toughness as well as scratch resistance and impact strength. Tapered Head Tube: for optimum headset stiffness and excellent steering control. The oversized fork head prevents brake judder on rough terrain. The FOCUS Cayo is a must for anyone entering the carbon class of racing bikes for the first time. For 2011, the FOCUS engineers have added more future-proof technology to the frame. The result is a rugged racing bike. The bike comes equipped with a mixture of Shimano Ultegra and FSA components with DT Swiss's R1900 wheelset finishing off the package. Grip is supplied thanks to Conti's Ultra-Sport tyres and the Prologo Nago saddle supplies the comfort required. The Cayo carbon frame features many techologies. These include SSPS (Stable Stiffness Per Size), Tapered Headtube (1 1/8" diametre at the top and ultra-stiff 1.5" at the base ensuring unlimited performance with minimum weight), and the BB30 oversized bottom bracket giving extra stiffness at the BB area. This bike looks good, rides well, and gives comfort to the rider when out on the open road.
