The new Red Carbon XRP 2011 is almost entirely made of carbon: with carbon hub and rim, and stainless steel spokes. The all new carbon hub reduces weight and increases wheel reaction. The new titanium free-wheel body increases wheel performance, and reduces weight considerably. The stainless steel spokes are straight pull with a round variable section profile (Ø 2.2/2/1.6/2). The front wheel has 20 spokes (10 left cross and 10 right radial spokes) and the rear wheel has 20 (10 left cross and 10 right cross spokes). 1347g is the surprising weight of the new Red Carbon XRP 2011: 123g lighter than the already super light Red Carbon. The rim is entirely made of carbon fibre, with a height 50 mm. The carbon rims are made using a particular technique by which the carbon fabric is aligned so that the resulting rim is always balanced. The spokes are burnished, 18 radial for the front wheel and 21 with Fulcrum® 2:1 spoke ratio for the rear wheel. The new top of the range Fulcrum off-road model implements advanced solutions starting from Ultra-Fit Tubeless technology through to the use of carbon fibre. And it is thanks to this composite that it has been possible to reduce the weight of the rim. Another contribution to weight reduction is also made by the reduction of eight spokes compared with Red Metal Zero wheels. Four spokes have been removed from the front wheel and four from the rear: as a result the rotating mass is reduced too. And stability? Don't worry, the 1,450 grams of the Red Carbon wheels are an important result but Fulcrum also know that lightness is no good without strength. That's why they designed the carbon rims asymmetrically. The rear wheel sees the rim displaced to the right to recover the dish asymmetry caused by the presence of the sprocket set. At the front, the asymmetry is displaced to the disc brake side in order to obtain a wheel which is absolutely consistent when braking too.
