Simply place the tool on the chain, if it lies flat on the chain, then it has stretched more than 1% and needs replacing. (1) Place the indicator on the chain - If there is a space between the tool and the chain, then you're good to go. (2) If the indicator lies flat along the chain, then this means the chain is worn-out and should be replaced in order avoid excessive wear on drive train parts.
